BMW South Africa and the SA Polo Association celebrates a 27 year partnership, making it the longest-running consecutive sports sponsorship in South Africa.
The 2016 BMW International Polo Series took place on Sunday, 11 September at the picturesque Waterfall Polo Estate in Johannesburg. The majestic surroundings set the stage for an epic second and final battle between South Africa and Uruguay where South Africa triumphed on home ground with a 7 – 5 win. Despite the windy weather conditions, both teams were determined to do their best and provided an entertaining and energetic match.
The game started at 14h30 with the 4th chukka showing both teams attacking at every opportunity and the final chukka ending with a win for the South African team – the man of the match was awarded to Tom de Bruin, SA Team Captain for being the highest scorer.
The first test was held at the beautiful Shongweni Club in Hillcrest in Durban on Sunday, 4 September 2016. The South African team played an incredible match against Uruguay with a 9 – 8 victorious win.
The BMW Group is celebrating one hundred years. To honour that, some BMW cars that were on show at Waterfall Estate were the BMW i8, the new BMW 7 series as well as BMW M4 GTS that was launched at the South African Festival of Motoring at Kyalami Grand Prix during 31 August to 4 September 2016.
BMW continues to push the boundaries, challenge itself and convinced that: “The best way to predict the future is to create it. The same applies to the company’s sponsorship commitments and now the BMW Group is looking ahead at the Next 100 Years.”
Through the BMW Sponsorship, the South African Polo Association (SAPA) is able to invite leading polo nations to play in South Africa and test local high goal players as well as the national side in the international arena. This collaboration also allows SAPA to invest in the development of polo through its transformation policy.
