0 – 100 km/h in 4.2 seconds is just the beginning. With the all-new BMW M2 Competition set to hit SA in September this year, we decided to take a moment to preview this edgy newcomer to the BMW M scene.
A NEW LEGEND IS BORN.
Every once in a while a legend is born, but it’s not often that you get two. Building on the history-making popularity of the BMW M2 Coupé, the BMW M2 Competition is already making waves in the motoring world. With big shoes to fill, it’s no wonder the BMW M2 Competition was designed to be stronger, better and faster than its predecessor – bringing a new challenge to the streets.
POWER UNDER THE HOOD.
Let’s get straight to the main attraction – the new double-charged 6 cylinder in-line engine with M TwinPower Turbo technology. Not only does it deliver 302kW, the engine’s peak torque comes in at 550 Nm. The duel exhaust system is a further confirmation with electronic flap control delivering that distinctive M sound.
DESIGNED FOR CONTROL.
The BMW M2 Competition is the first model to come with selector switches in the centre console that adjust everything from engine characteristics to steering. Added to the redesigned oil supply and cooling system is the enlarged Kidney Grille for improved airflow – as well as various other design tweaks for better aerodynamics. Not to be overlooked is the striking CFRP strut in the engine compartment which allows for even more rigidity and steering precision. It is a testament to fine-tuned BMW M engineering at its best.
THE COLOUR OF PERFORMANCE.
For the first-time ever, metallic Hockenheim Silver will be introduced to the public and we can’t think of a better candidate for this frostily sophisticated hue. The new BMW M2 Competition will also be available in the metallic Sunset Orange colour already featured on some BMW M Performance Models.
OPTIONS ON TAP.
The BMW M2 Competition comes standard with performance and a wealth of optional enhancements – for style, comfort and individuality. The BMW M Sport seat with its bucket shape and illuminated M2 logo on the backrest give an instant feeling of the racetrack while the black leather upholstery with contrast stitching in either blue or orange is sure to raise your heart-rate. There is also the option to add the latest M Sport brakes which, thanks to the larger brake discs, allow for absolute precision.
